Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 10

London Broncos inflicted a heavy defeat on Sheffield Eagles in Round 10 of the Betfred Championship, continuing their 100% winning record.

On Saturday, the Broncos ran eight tries past the Eagles in the capital, including braces from Morea Morea and Epel Kapinias.

It’s back-to-back heavy defeats for Sheffield in this past fortnight, who have slipped down to eighth in the table as a result.

Workington and Midlands’ contest delivered a thriller on Sunday. Matty Chrimes’ try eventually proved to be the difference, although the Hurricanes had to hold on for a good 17 minutes, as Town fought back with two late tries to reduce the deficit to just four points.

They held on to claim their fourth straight win, however, and have moved up to second spot, just one point behind the high-flying Broncos.

Similarly, Barrow Raiders secured their fourth win on the spin, beating Rochdale comfortably on the road.

Keighley Cougars banked their first victory since late February with a huge win over North Wales Crusaders at Cougar Park.

Brad Holroyd completed a hat-trick, whilst Will Groves and Oliver Whitford scored two tries a piece in a 14-try rout on home soil.

Over at the South Leeds Stadium, Hunslet won their first game at home in over 600 days as Billy Jowitt converted a dramatic last-minute penalty.

With the scores locked up at 32-32 Hunslet were awarded a penalty for offside and the Parksiders Captain hit it low and hard to clear the posts after the hooter had sounded, cueing mass celebration in the home stands.

Hunslet had nearly thrown it away leading 32-18 on the hour in what was an exciting end to end game. This is now their second win on the bounce, as well as a shock victory against the in-form Newcastle Thunder.

Elsewhere, it’s five consecutive league wins for Oldham as they came up with a commanding 28-12 victory over Halifax Panthers at The Shay. Whitehaven also came from behind to beat Goole Vikings in emphatic fashion on Sunday, overturning a 22-12 deficit to win 22-36.

Haven scored four tries in twelve minutes through Ciaran Walker, Ethan Bickerdike, Brad Brennan and Dave Eccleston to snatch two points from the hosts’ grasp and move level on points with their Cumbrian rivals Workington in the table.

Dewsbury endured a third straight loss in Round 10 – this time at the hands of Widnes Vikings.

Allan Coleman’s men returned to winning ways and started strongly in Sunday’s encounter, leading 20-0 until the 55th minute.

The Rams did forge an attempted fightback through Daniel Coates and Brad Graham’s efforts, but the damage was already done due to Ryan Ince’s brace and individual scores from Lewis Hall and Nathan Connell for Widnes.

The sides will meet again in Round One of the 1895 Cup next Sunday.

Finally, a real thriller unfolded at the Salford Stadium between Salford and Batley.

Both sides gave everything they had in this pulsating Round 10 affair, with simply nothing to separate the two teams until the 79th minute.

Leon Hayes, on loan from Betfred Super League table toppers Warrington Wolves, quickly became a Salford hero as he kicked an incredible drop-goal from 40 yards on debut to win the match – sending the home fans into raptures, and in turn breaking Batley’s hearts.

It’s safe to say the Championship has delivered its fair share of drama, excitement and surprises in 2026!
